LGBT people continue to face major discrimination in Uganda, actively encouraged by religious and political leaders.
VEHRA Is a registered youth-led LGBT organization founded in 2017 to advocate for the rights and freedoms of sexual minority groups in Uganda through sport, art and economic empowerment.

Through this program, the organization organizes sports activities, trains and builds the capacity of LGBTIQ people in voicing out their concerns about the human rights abuses of LGBTIQ in the country.
Through this program, the organization uses sport, art and economic empowerment to advocate for the rights of Sexual Minority groups in the country.
Under this program, the organization organizes sports activities, trains and builds the capacity of sports men and musical artists in voicing out their concerns about the human rights abuses of LGBT people in the country to bring about social justice and inclusion of all persons in the enjoyment of the basic human rights.
This program advocates for the Sexual Reproductive Health rights and Services for sexual minority groups through the setting up of “safe spaces” at community health centers and in National Referral hospitals free of stigma and discrimination.
Through this program, the organization uses art and craft to discover the skills of LGBT and Sex workers to develop them in an economic sense and start up income generating activities.
The organization through partnership and alliance building seeks to work with likeminded organization in advocating and advancing the rights and freedoms of sexual minorities in the community. Through sport, art, music and drama, and legal aid services, the organization organizes different sports events and tournaments to bring together different sexual minority groups as a way of promoting social solidarity and togetherness in advocating for the rights and freedoms of LGBT and Sex work persons in the country.

I have known VEHRA since inception up to date. I have Come to appreciate the aspect of advancing my human rights as a transgender youth without forcing anyone to notice me or coercion on anyone to understand my sexuality but rather accept myself first, believe in myself and leverage my talents to challenge my status quo regardless of the rampant homophobia I have come to gain all such confidence through my interactions with VEHRA projects that are non radical but rather self focusing and leveraging self gifted abilities like art and sports I'm a person of arts most especially performing arts and VEHRA has given me the courage and confidence to fear none but conquer my own fears and stand out through performing arts.
As a young man and sometimes visibly as transgender, I have struggled to be accepted among my male peers due to my strong passion for netball and talent in such regards.....I have never felt Human enough to freely engage in my favorite sport , netball like I feel at VEHRA....VEHRA is my home of joy and happiness where am free to be completely me without apologies and that's so priceless for me...I love every opportunity I get to be part of the VEHRA netball team.
I have seen VEHRA grow through different heights and from scratch to a build up now . I want to commend their unique strategy of using art, sport and economic empowerment to shift the community perception from a victim mentality to a victor mentality. I love it when LGBT youths come to realize that it's time to stop blaming the system that's not about to change but rather take up and dominate those spaces that will in the long run create visibility for the LGBT community in Uganda and Africa at large... Not every one can see the dream that I see with VEHRA.. I encourage them to hold the vision and trust the process. To team VEHRA, your dreams are valid.
